No one wants to think about aging skin and wrinkles when they’re young, then all of a sudden you hit 30 and all your skin problems start showing up. When I was in my 20s I never thought once about my skin, that it was aging with me, I didn’t have any backup plan about fixing all that sun damage and age spots. Then on my 32nd birthday, I started noticing small freckles and wrinkles around my eyes, there was a frown line on my forehead as well.
Looking at myself in the mirror I thought to myself, “what have I become?” I’ve been covering all these lines, wrinkles, and spots with makeup. I felt like a woman wallowing in lies and secrets. As days unfold and waft by, I could visibly notice my skin getting worse.
Now it is important to know that I am not ashamed of my aging skin, these are my battle scars, a constant reminder of my struggles and triumphs through life. Being ashamed of one’s flaws and being concerned about health are two very different approaches. I was concerned about my skin’s health and wanted to do something about it.
I visited my dermatologist, after examining my skin and asking about my routine, she suggested three things.
- Start working out, even if it is for half an hour.
- Start taking verisol collagen
- Start using CBD cream.
Out of these three things, I wasn’t familiar with CBD cream. The product was relatively new in the market and I was skeptical about its use. Therefore, I started researching about it. CBD creams contain extracts from the hemp plant, Cannabidiol precisely. It is one of the known 80 cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. Unlike THC and other cannabinoids, CBD is not a psychoactive compound. The Internet was full of positive reviews about CBD creams so I decided to give it a try.
How CBD Creams are Made:
Most CBD creams contain CBD extracts mixed with olive or coconut oil. Some contain traces of shea butter as well. The cream that I was using contained vitamin E and retinol along with CBD. There is still room for improvement when it comes to packaging and Custom Cream Boxes for these products. Many brands fail to mention all the ingredients over the box. FDA needs to regulate this kind of behavior.
How CBD Creams Work:
Our body has an elaborate system of Endocannabinoids; these are molecules that help in regulating many bodily functions. In our skin, several types of cells synthesize endocannabinoid molecules. Majorly Hair follicles and Sebaceous glands produce two types of endocannabinoids:
- Anandamide (AEA) and
These are constantly released in specific amounts in our bodies. CBD creams directly bind with these endocannabinoids found in skin and help enhance their functionality.
Skin Benefits of CBD Creams:
After using the cream for almost a month, I started noticing the benefits my dermatologist was talking about.
Reduced Inflammation and Redness:
Endocannabinoids exert anti-inflammatory effects and CBD cream positively enhances their natural function. Our skin’s ECS prevents the activation of the immune system when it is not needed. I had Rosacea around my nose and cheeks, after one month the redness and inflammation were visibly reduced and my skin was less sensitive.
CBD creams also help with eczema and acne as they help regulate sebaceous glands (less sebum is produced, pores aren’t clogged and skin clears up).
Regulate Hair Follicles:
One of the lesser-known benefits of CBD creams is that they help regulate hair growth. They help with both, decreasing excessive hair growth and help regenerate hair follicles in the bald spots. The exact mechanism is unknown, but some studies verify the positive effects of CBD on hair follicles.
CBD cream that I was using had 0.5% retinol in it, which is known for anti-aging effects as well. After using this cream my skin was less sensitive, moisture barrier was increased and overall it felt more supple and smooth. I noticed that the frown line on the forehead was almost gone.
Reduce Muscle Soreness:
I was working out and taking collagen along with using topical CBD cream. Applying CBD creams after my workouts helped reduce muscle soreness significantly.
Reduced Appearance of Cellulite and Stretch Marks:
Cellulite is normal, 80%of women have it, it’s not a disease, you shouldn’t be worried about it, but, sometimes this dimply appearance can make you lose your confidence (even though it shouldn’t, cellulite is normal, duh). For me, it was around my stomach and abdominal area and CBD creams helped me reduce the appearance of cellulite and stretch marks.
After I started using CBD creams, I noticed a clear improvement in my mood. I was less anxious, let worried, I felt calm and happier, which in turn changed my outlook towards life.
Quality of Sleep:
Using CBD cream at night helped me with improving the quality of my sleep. I slept better, woke up happier. Before this, I used to wake up so cranky I needed at least 3 hours to come into the socially acceptable mode.
CBD creams are very effective products, there are no two thoughts about it but to transform your skin, a healthy diet, workout, and change of lifestyle, along with the topical application of CBD cream are important. I had to work out, take collagen, eat healthily, get plenty of sleep, and use CBD cream regularly. In the end, no spell or wand will magically make all your skin problems disappear, but certain products may work well than others. CBD creams are one of those products, but consistency in applying is the key.
